Save the Children says two of its employees are missing and that one of their private vehicles was found burnt.

Save the Children in the United Kingdom says two of its Myanmar workers are missing after more than charcoal waste. They found 30 people, after an attack, a monitoring group and local media blamed the military on authority.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military he overthrew the elected government Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi almost 11 months ago, accusing her party of fraud in the election.

The country has been in chaos since then, killing more than 1,300 people in repression by security forces, according to a local monitoring group.

The “People’s Defense Forces” (PDF) have been set up across the country to fight the military, and have led government troops to a bloody halt to fighting and retaliation.

On Saturday, photos of two trucks and a car burned on social media showed photos of two trucks and a car on a highway in the eastern municipality of Kayah State, with the remains of corpses inside.

A member of a local PDF group said his fighters had found vehicles on Saturday morning after hearing that the military had stopped several vehicles in Hpruso after clashes with local fighters on Friday.

“When we went to see the area this morning, we found the dead burned in two trucks. We found 27 bodies, “he told AFP.

“We found 27 skulls,” said another witness who declined to be named. “But there were other dead in the truck, burnt to pieces, we couldn’t count.”

Save the Children later said a statement Two Myanmar workers were “trapped” in the incident and were reported missing. He added that he had “confirmed that his private vehicle had been attacked and burned”.

The charity said in a statement that it had been suspended in several counties since the two were traveling home.

Inger Ashing, director general of Save the Children, said the aid group “condemns this attack as a violation of international humanitarian law.”

“We are horrified by the violence against innocent civilians and our workers,” he said.

In October, the group said its office in the western town of Thantlang had been destroyed by bombing, and dozens of homes had also been destroyed in clashes with local anti-military groups.

The Myanmar army had earlier said its troops attacked Hpruson on Friday after its troops tried to stop seven cars driving in a “suspicious manner”.

Several people were killed in the ensuing clashes, Zaw Min Tun’s spokesman told AFP without giving details.

The Myanmar Witness monitor said local media reports and accounts of local fighters confirmed that “including children and women, 35 people were burned and killed by the military on December 24 in Hpruso municipality.”

Satellite data also showed that a fire broke out in Hprus at around 13:00 (06:30 GMT) on Friday, he added.

The AFP said it could not confirm reports of the clash, but digital verification journalists said images showing the incident did not appear online until Friday afternoon.

PDF groups have surprised the army with their effectiveness, analysts say as the military struggles to break resistance to its command.

Earlier this month, the United States said it was “outraged by credible and malicious reports” that Myanmar troops had seized 11 villages in the Sagaing region, including children, and burned them alive.

Win Myat Aye, a member of a stripped-down group of lawmakers, condemned the atrocity. “The army is a cruel gift to our people on Christmas Day,” he said.
