Few designers walk the line between the pretty and the fearless as well as Ashley Whittaker. A love of traditional heart, bold colors and patterns adds a dose of modern sophistication to classic interiors. Please join me and Susana for a visit with Ashley at her amazing country house in Millbrook, New York.

As Ashley and her husband were looking for a bigger house in Millbrook for a growing family, nothing exactly suited their tastes and lifestyle. there were spacious 19th-century houses but new buildings without squirrels or any architectural refinements. Instead, they decided on a wonderful mountain property with wide views and built the house of their dreams from the ground up.

Starting from scratch, Ashley combined the best of both worlds: the feeling of an old house that lives like a new one. With so many items on her wish list, Ashley considered the floor plan the most important “This is all about connections: the kitchen and family room, the entrance hall, and the outside.”

In the heart of the house is a large upstairs room, a multi-purpose living room with two separate but interconnected seats, which works well for both fabrics and is perfect for summer as the French doors open to the width of the terrace. with a roar of fire as on holiday.

In the planning phases, Ashley thought of a rectangular dining room, but a suggestion from a friend of the architect convinced her that the answer was a square dining room. Thanks to the flexibility of a custom construction, they were able to make a change and now with a 72 ″ round dining table, you can comfortably stay from four to ten in a room that achieves the perfect balance of sophisticated glamor and country chic.

Throughout the house, Ashley’s fondness for color, pattern, and blending shines through, but nowhere is it more fascinating than the girls ’bedroom on the third floor.
