Saudi Arabia seizes 4.5-meter amphetamine pills hidden in oranges | Drug News

Saudi custom has trampled more than 4.5 million amphetamine pills in the kingdom, known locally as Captagon, hidden in a transport of oranges entering from the port of Jeddah, state television reported.

Authorities said a shipment of orange boxes from the port of Jeddah was confiscated after customs procedures and X-ray machines were reported, Al Arabiya reported. The images showed numerous Captagon pills hidden under fruit boxes.

Initial reports did not mention the origin of the narcotics.

Authorities added that they had arrested several people who were waiting for the boxes to arrive.

Customs officials said their workers were “interfered with smuggling attempts and organized campaigns,” Al Arabiya reported.

Saudi Arabia banned imports of Lebanese products in April, stepping up attempts to smuggle drugs from the country.

Saudi authorities on Saturday reported that 14.4 million amphetamine pills had been seized from Lebanon, hidden by iron sheets. In April, they said they found 5.3 million pills hidden in Lebanon shipments from Lebanon.

Authorities said at the time that four suspects had been arrested, including two civilians and two residents, one of whom was a Syrian.
