From New York and London to Karachi and Rabbat, thousands of people have gathered in major cities around the world to protest Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Demonstrators also rallied on Tuesday to denounce the ongoing repression in the Al-Aqsa mosque complex in Jerusalem’s Old Quarter, as well as Israel’s intention to forcibly expel Palestinians from occupied homes in East Jerusalem.

Some protesters carried banners that read “Free Palestine,” “Israel is a terrorist state,” and “No more occupation.”

Israelis in Gaza have come after weeks of escalating tensions as a result of the forced eviction of Palestinian families as Sheikh Jarrah, a Palestinian neighborhood occupied in East Jerusalem, has been trying to expel Jewish settlers for decades.

The situation escalated when Israeli police stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old Quarter, the third holiest site in Islam, and injured hundreds of Palestinian worshipers in a few days of violence. Protests began throughout the occupied territories and within Israel. The Palestinian party Hamas, which rules Gaza, fired rockets at Israel.
