Yorkshire hires Gibson in the midst of rebuilding after the racist scandal

Former West Indies player Ottis Gibson was hired as coach of the Yorkshire English cricket team on Wednesday, and the club said his arrival would “help promote a culture of inclusion” amid the racism scandal.

The full-fledged Yorkshire coach left the club last month when a report found that former player Azeem Rafiq had been the victim of “racial harassment and harassment”. Yorkshir’s management of the scandal led to the loss of sponsors and the right to host international matches in Headingley.

Gibson’s appointment, which is all Black, has come in the midst of a Yorkshis review, with the rhythm of England’s England player Darren Gough also joining as interim manager of cricket. Gibson informs Gough.

Prior to Gibson, he coached the West Indies and South Africa and worked as a bowling coach for England.

Kamlesh Patel, who was named club president in November, said Gibson had shown his “commitment and commitment to getting into the process we are going through at Yorkshire County Cricket Club”.

“I know it will foster dialogue and help foster a culture of inclusion in the club,” Patel said, “as well as helping and developing the global talent we have here and pushing it to the next level.”

Gibson will officially begin work at the end of February on England’s most successful regional team, following the end of his involvement with Pakistan’s Super League team, Multan Sultans.

“This is one of the most famous cricket roles in England, and I am very excited to work with this talented team of players to take the club forward,” Gibson said.

“I’ve talked at length with Goughy about the direction the club will take, and I’m excited to be a part of that future.”
