The Bank of Tanzania is reportedly planning to introduce a digital central bank currency or CBDC for the African nation after the announcement of similar initiatives by neighboring countries.
According to a Bloomberg report on Friday, Florens Luoga, governor of the Bank of Tanzania he said on Thursday, Tanzania intended to follow Nigeria’s example to expand its CBDC. Luoga said the central bank had “already started preparing” since 1966 for a digital shilling in Tanzania.
