WBO weightlifting champion Terence Crawford has waited years to finally face a major name in the division. His chance to finally get to the ring on Saturday night is to pay twice against former welterweight champion Shawn Porter in a big show.

Crawford, who has long been at the top of the pound pound lists, won the welterweight championship in June 2018 by beating Jeff Horn in the TKO. Fighting as part of the Top Rank barn, he was left out of the fights with the biggest names in welterweight, all of whom were fighting under the Premier Boxing Champions flag. However, Crawford’s skills were constantly on display as he made four successful defenses in his tournament, all at a standstill.

Porter, a PBC fighter, was finally tasked with tackling Crawford when the WBO made it a mandatory challenge. In December 2013, Porter won his first welterweight title, defeating Devon Alexander. He lost that belt by splitting his decision against Kell Brooke two fights later. Porter also lost in the next bid for the title, leaving a tough and tight decision against Keith Thurman in June 2016.

In September 2018, Porter showed his strength in the division, beating Danny Garcia by deciding to become the WBC champion. He would hold on to that belt until he lost the exciting war with Errol Spence Jr. in December 2019.

Spence is the biggest menu item for Porter or Crawford, Porter wants a chance for revenge, and Crawford wants to deal with the other main dog in the division. The winner carries the WBO title and can get Spence’s fight in the near future.

The card below is filled with some interesting names. Former junior featherweight champion Isaac Dogbe is back in the featherweight bout against Christopher Diaz. Dogbe, who holds the 132-pound NABF title, is entering a two-fight winning streak. In April, Diaz loses to Emauel Navarrete. Moreover, the midfielder hopes that Janibek Alimkhanuly is back because he wants to continue undefeated against Hassan N’Dam.

Also on the pre-card, Carlos Balderas’s chance to rise to the junior level is back when he faces Julio Cortez. Balderas, a 25-year-old Californian, is 10-1 in his career so far with nine playoffs. He recovered from a TKO loss to Juan Rene Tellz in December 2019 in a TKO win over Fidel Cervantes in August. Cortez comes in with a 15-3 lead, but lost the decision in the final outing.
