India has reported the highest daily number of new coronavirus infections, with more than 271,000 cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, in the UK, vaccinated travelers will not be required to take a COVID-19 test to return from holiday next month, according to the British newspaper The Times.

Serbia says Australia’s decision to oust Djokovic is “scandalous”
The Serbian Prime Minister has denounced the scandal of Novak Djokovic’s decision to expel tennis superstar Australia as “outrageous” from his decision not to vaccinate against COVID-19, and the Serbian president has said he will always be welcome in his hometown.
Djokovic’s appeal against his visa revocation was rejected by a three-judge verdict that dealt a final blow to hopes for a record-breaking 21st Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open.
“I think the court’s decision is scandalous … I find it unbelievable that in a few days there will be two completely contradictory court decisions,” Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said in Belgrade.
Thailand has reported the first death of the Omicron coronavirus variant
Thailand has reported its first death as a result of a highly contagious variant of the Omicron coronavirus, a health official said on Sunday.
The death occurred after an 86-year-old woman from the southern Songkhla province was spotted after her first Omicron case was detected in Thailand last month, which led to the resumption of COVID-19 mandatory quarantine for foreign visitors.
“The woman is in bed with Alzheimer’s disease,” Rungrueng Kitphati, a spokesman for the health ministry, told Reuters.
That death was expected, as the country has so far reported more than 10,000 Omicron cases, saying Thailand would not need further measures to contain it.
Djokovic boarded the plane after the Australian court approved the visa waiver
Tennis star Novak Djokovic boarded a plane bound for Dubai after the Australian Federal Court upheld the government’s decision to revoke his coronary vaccination.
The player was seen boarding an Emirates flight from Melbourne within a few hours of the court ruling.
The Beijing Omicron case calls for the closure of temples and queues for COVID tests
China reported 65 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases as of Jan. 15, including Beijing’s first Omicron case, just weeks after the city’s Winter Olympics on February 4 and the country’s Lunar New Year holidays began.
It dropped from 104 comparable cases the day before, as the outbreak in the northwestern city of Xian was extinguished after severe blockades.
But the highly transmissible Omicron variant has been detected in at least five provinces and municipalities, urging cities to set limits to stop the spread and threatening to slow down economic growth.

The Conservative president of the UK is urging Johnson to address the culture of the workers’ parties
The chairman of the British Conservative Party rejected Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s resignation, but said he had to deal with the culture of his government, which led to multiple meetings of staff at his headquarters during the coronavirus blockade.

India has reported 271,202 new cases of the novel coronavirus daily, the highest daily figure in eight months, for a total of 37.12 million, according to the Federal Ministry of Health.
The death toll from COVID-19 rose to 314 from 486,066, the ministry said.

N The Korean train crosses China for the first time since the border was blocked: reports
A North Korean freight train entered a border town in China on Sunday, the first confirmed crossing since the anti-coronary border blockade began, according to media reports.
North Korea has not officially reported any COVID-19 cases and has imposed strict anti-virus measures, including border closures and internal travel restrictions, since the pandemic began in December 2019.
A North Korean freight train crossed the Yalu River Railway Bridge on Sunday to reach the Chinese town of Dandong, the Yonhap News Agency said, citing multiple unnamed sources.
Beijing has reported the first local case of Omicron
The first case of the local transmission Omicron has been detected in the Chinese capital, Beijing, according to authorities, the city said a few weeks before the Winter Olympics.
State television reported on Saturday that a new COVID infection had been identified as Omicron strain.
Laboratory tests found “specific mutations in the Omicron variant” in the person, an official with the Pang Xinghuo City Disease Control Authority said in a news release.

The UK will not require COVID testing for fully vaccinated passengers: the report
Passengers vaccinated in the UK will be able to go on a mid-term holiday next month without a COVID-19 test on their return, The Times reported.
Transport Minister Grant Shapps is in favor of ending the double-trial test system for the February break, the report said.

China urges authorities to reduce the impact of COVID on the New Moon
The Chinese state planner has called on local governments to reduce the effects of COVID-19 cuts on the upcoming New Moon holiday to help stimulate consumption, as cases of rising Omicron variants threaten economic growth.
“Local governments should avoid single and simplified measures … COVID-19 epidemic and control measures (holidays) and minimize the impact on people’s lives,” the National Development and Reform Commission said in a statement.
He said low-risk places in China meet the reasonable demand for short trips by urban and rural residents, and called for an increase in the supply of daily produce during the holidays.
