Chanderpaul appointed him a West Indian under-19 batting consultant

Former West Indies cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been named a batting consultant for the Under-19 national team for a high-performance camp in Antigua ahead of next year’s World Cup.

The 47-year-old left-back, who has played 164 races, 268 ODIs and 22 T20Is, has won a total of 20,988 races for the West Indies, will join the training camp to be held in Coolidge from November 15-28. Ancient Cricket Ground.

Chanderpaul Floyd Reifer (coach), Rohan Nurse (assistant coach) and Curtly Ambrose (bowling coach) will meet in preparation for the World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the Caribbean from January to February next year.

“Shiv has tremendous knowledge and expertise in cricketing and will be a great complement to coaches,” Jimmy Adams, director of cricket at the West Indies (CWI) cricket, said in a statement.

“We already have another icon of the game in Sir Curtly Ambrose, who has been involved with the team since the August camp, as well as several other great coaches.”

The selection panel has selected 28 players for this summer camp, following previous camp and trial matches held in August.

Includes two newcomers who will be evaluated by coaches and selectors: Jaden Leacock, right-arm fast-middle ball and right hitter, and Kevin Wickham, one right and right arm wrist spinner.

Robert Haynes, the UW’s CWI chief selector for the West Indies Rising Stars, said he was eager to get to know the players.

“After a month-long camp in Antigua in August after touring the England Under-18 West Indies national team, I am eager to see the continuous progress and improvement of different players and interact with them to understand their thinking and approach to the game.

“The two-week camp will feature four training matches along with ongoing skills and physical development, and is an opportunity for all invited players to claim their chances for the home series and the ICC Under19 Cricket World Cup.”

The Under-19s of the West Indies are preparing for the ICC Under-19 World Cup to be held in the Caribbean from January 4 to February 3, 2022.
