The real problem with ‘Eternals’

Sure, Rotten Tomatoes scores aren’t everything — and at a time when they’re all critical (hello, Twitter), they provide only a fraction of the overall public perception of any film. But for a Marvel movie, literally a venture designed to have a nice crowd, its (currently) 53 percent score is low. A movie, any movie, is also a sign of what happens when everyone is required to be everything. In addition, Forever Carrying out an MCU is an indicator of the inherent growing pains.
People often associate conversations with moving things forward with diversity and changing the canon. Forever it does, but the film’s hiccups aren’t tied to its actors and crew. Or his own style, which lacks the hypercolor brightness of many of the above. It’s really about the story he’s trying to tell, and how much of the story he had to adapt about its 2-hour, 37-minute run.
The thing is Forever it has no clue. Now in its fourth phase, the MCU isn’t based on all the stories that came before it in the big group movies of the century. Tony Stark isn’t just into the waltz Spider-Man: Homecoming and let everyone know who he is. There aren’t a lot of original story movies that get to the superhero slug parties. The Avengers. In many ways, this works for Zhao’s benefit: he was free to make his own film and not “fit in” with all the other MCU movies. There is no big cameo Forever, and only Avengers and Thanos are mentioned. But that also meant he had to do the equivalent of narrating 10 independent films and Avengers: EndgameAll with heroes who are far less familiar than Spidey. His film also needed a team drama, so he spends part of his time in the middle essentially acting out the whole arc. Captain America: The Civil War. It’s too much.
Oddly enough, it’s the best film in Earth-related narrative beats. Zhaok likes to work on interpersonal moments. But sometimes those moments feel disconnected forever ‘ lots of action scenes. This means that his film has to do a lot of emotional work in short periods of time; something, perhaps, was the moment when Phastos wept as a result of his historical involvement in the bombing of Hiroshima, a scene that is drawn some criticism. If the two or three heroes in the film had also been given independent films before this, it’s easy to imagine Zhao. Forever which is almost a thoughtful and moving journey. Instead, it’s too heavy a story for anyone’s shoulder.
