The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen says it carried out airstrikes against Sanaan Houthi’s “legitimate” targets, and no casualties have been reported.

Violent explosions have shaken northern neighborhoods in Sanaa for hours when Saudi-led military coalitions said they were carrying out airstrikes on Houthi’s “legitimate” military targets in the Yemeni capital for hours, Reuters reported.

The Saudi-led coalition had earlier asked civilians not to gather around or approach potential targets, Saudi state television reported on Tuesday.

The search targeted two military sites, residents told Reuters.

The airstrike on Saturday signaled that the Houthi movement had targeted 14 drones in several Saudi cities, including the Saudi oil giant Aramco, a facility managed in Jeddah.

Houthi-led Al Masirah TV confirmed the attacks on Tuesday morning, saying it had carried out at least three airstrikes in parts of Sanaa.

An attack set fire to a plastic factory, while other attacks have damaged several homes, according to an Al Masirah TV report.

There has been no news of any immediate deaths or injuries.

The coalition said the operation was aimed at “secret ballistic missiles” and added that it had destroyed “a valuable ballistic missile target” in the Thahban district, north of the capital.

He added that the attacks violate “the principle of international humanitarian law and self-defense.”

The movement blamed the kingdoms on the Houthis, which control the northern Yemeni capital and vast expanses, and accused them of turning Sanaa Airport into a military base to launch attacks in Saudi Arabia within hours.

Meanwhile, the Houthis are carrying out an attack in Marib, the last stronghold of the internationally recognized government north, as well as in other areas of Yemen.

Houthis linked to Iran have repeatedly carried out cross-border attacks in Saudi Arabia using drones and missiles since the coalition intervened in Yemen in March 2015 after the Houthi movement ousted the internationally recognized government from the capital.

The conflict, seen as a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran, has been in the military blockade for years.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the conflict has killed more than 233,000 people.
