The Sunway Pyramid features a RM500K smart toilet Internet system – Wired PR Lifestyle Story

I’m no stranger to discussing loo experiences with my co-workers (we’re built differently), but these have always only happened in our private DMs.

I never foresaw in my career or life that I would write publicly on a related topic now. Thanks to all of this Sunway Pyramid recently introduced its new IoT system.

Not like the IoT of the Internet of Things, but like the Internet of Toilet system. I’ll give you a moment to digest that … and get back to business.

Sunway Pyramid has teamed up with Singapore equipment expert Rigel Technology to develop this new intelligent common system.

By optimizing the performance and efficiency of toilets, the IoT system aims to achieve 3 goals: reducing cost, downtime, and water consumption.

Evil toilets are no more

In Malaysia, somehow we have just accepted that most public toilets will be evil. Even though poor cleaners do their best all day long, some of us just have horrible toilet behaviors.

Aside from that, there are also times when the toilet equipment simply breaks down (it’s called downtime), and a technician will need to be brought in to fix it.

But detecting the cleanliness or operational efficiency of a toilet remains a manual task for those in charge, and they will be aware of these issues at each visit.

Thus, technology can play a role in speeding up the detection and action process, improving the work of cleaners and technicians, and improving the visitor experience.

According to Shannen Soon, CEO of Rigel Technology Malaysia, Sunway Pyramid’s IoT systems will be able to reduce operating costs (OpEx) and maintenance and cleaning costs by up to 15%.

In terms of water consumption, the system should be able to save about 15-20% in costs.

But they will monitor the results of the first set, which takes about 6-8 months to collect data, not counting the 4-5 weeks needed to fully optimize each set of common sets with the IoT system.

That being said, if everything goes as planned, they should see a good return on investment (ROI) as it comes with a better customer experience.

This, according to the group, will lead to an extension of visitors to the mall, which will also increase retail spending and future visits.

The common Internet system is part of Sunway Pyramid’s move to digitally transform different aspects of the shopping site.

Previously, Sunway Smart Parking was included in its car parks to accommodate tickets and cash, as well as an integrated customer interaction center to meet customer needs through a variety of channels.

Will this IoT system have as much impact on my life as ticket and cashless parking? Maybe not, but I know I will always appreciate clean, functional toilets, and it would be interesting to see where Sunway takes this technology.
