NEW YORK (Reuters) – The Trump organization will not have to pay billions of dollars in bills for former Michael Cohen Trump repairman and lawyer, a New York judge ruled Friday.
Michael Cohen sued the Trump Organization for failing to meet its commitment to pay the legal costs of its work. But the judge said Cohen did not prove the bills he suffered between a criminal investigation and other lawsuits related to his conduct as an employee of the Trump Organization.
The alleged lost returns included $ 1.9 million in legal fees and costs, plus another $ 1.9 million related to Cohen’s criminal case, according to Cohen’s 2019 complaint.
“In summary, Mr. Cohen’s legal commissions arise from Mr. Trump’s personal service, Mr. Trump’s campaign and the Trump Foundation’s (sometimes illegal) service, but not from the Trump Institution’s business service,” the judge said in the record.
The Trump Institution was the only defendant in Cohen’s case.
On Twitter (NYSE :), Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis said the decision was “unfair”.
Cohen, a longtime employee of the company and Trump, became a critic of the former president and testified that Trump had ordered him to break the law. In 2018, she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison for assisting Trump in the 2016 election campaign by making illegal payments to women and lying to Congress about a Russian Trump project.
