The Russian army has completed its exercises against submarines
Russian Northern Fleet vessels have carried out anti-submarine exercises in the Norwegian Sea, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The ministry said in a statement that a Russian-launched missile cruiser and a specially equipped helicopter were engaged in various maneuvers to position the submarines.
Drilling was part of a wider naval exercise involving more than 140 vessels from all Russian fleets in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the North, Okhotsk and Mediterranean Seas.
The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on “those most closely linked to the Kremlin.”
The United Kingdom will punish businesses and individuals with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin if Moscow takes any action against Ukraine, Finance Secretary-General Simon Clarke has said.
“We are very clear that if Russia takes more action against Ukraine, then we will tighten the sanctions regime on businesses and individuals with the strongest ties to the Kremlin,” Clarke told Sky News in the United Kingdom.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, London has become a major global source of revenue from the former Soviet republics.
The ruble goes to the height of a week
The ruble has strengthened and is approaching a one-week high against the dollar after Moscow announced last week its readiness to continue talks with Ukraine on the West.
At 07:30 GMT, the ruble was 0.4 percent stronger at 77.46 against the dollar. Last week it fell to a 15-month low of 80.4125.
The currency gained 0.2 percent against the euro to trade at 86.45.
