VIENNA (Reuters) – The United States on Thursday threatened to face Iran next month at the International Atomic Energy Agency if it does not cooperate further with surveillance – a escalation that could weaken talks with Iran to revive the 2015 major power deal.

Tehran is blocked at several stops with the IAEA, whose 35th national government The committee is holding a quarterly meeting this week.

President Donald Trump then withdrew Washington from the 2015 deal that lifted sanctions in exchange for restrictions on Iran’s atomic activity. It re-imposed weakening sanctions, and then Tehran gradually expanded its nuclear work and reduced cooperation with the IAEA.

Iran denies access to IAEA in a workshop to reinstall surveillance cameras in the TESA Karaj complex. The IAEA also wants answers about the origin of uranium particles found in seemingly old but undeclared sites, and Iran says its inspector continues to conduct “excessive invasive physical searches.”

“Unless Iran’s lack of cooperation is resolved immediately … the Council will have no choice but to meet in extraordinary session before the end of this year to address the crisis,” the U.S. said in a statement to the governing body.

Karaj said he was talking about reinstalling IAEA cameras at the workshop, as he makes parts for advanced centrifuges that enrich uranium.

That workshop was hit by an apparent sabotage in June, which Iran says was an attack on its main enemy Israel.

One of the four IAEA cameras installed there was destroyed and its footage is missing. Iran removed all cameras after the incident. Israel has not given an opinion on what happened.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said Wednesday that he did not know if the workshop was working again, and that he was running out of time to reach an agreement.

An extraordinary meeting of the Council would probably be to approve a resolution against Iran, a diplomatic escalation that will take place against Tehran.

This could jeopardize indirect talks between Iran and the United States About reviving the 2015 deal, which is set to resume on Monday.
