A strong winter storm has brought in heavy snow and high winds United States of America East Coast, forcing the abandonment thousands of flights Nearly 70 million people throughout the region have heard severe weather warnings.

“It’s a good day if you don’t have to go outside to stay home!” He said.

On Saturday, more than 3,500 flights were canceled in the U.S., whether traveling in or out, according to flight tracking. FlightAwareand have already canceled 847 flights by Sunday.

There were more than 1,450 cancellations on Friday.

Gabriel Elizondo of Al Jazeera, reported from New York City, said some public transportation had been suspended.

“Right now, here in New York, nine degrees Celsius is negative. The metro system is still up and running here. But many trains and buses and other public transport have been stopped, “he added.

Elizondo said weather experts said if the storm continues there is a fear of coastal flooding, something that is already happening in southern New Jersey.

The NWS has warned of “dangerous snow conditions” on parts of the mid-Atlantic and New England coasts, with a snow accumulation of more than 2 feet (61 cm) in the area around Boston.

The snowfall rate would be between 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) per hour, and strong winds would cause “scattered power outages.”

“White conditions and expect almost impossible travel sometimes,” the service said.

‘Historical storm’

The governors of New York and New Jersey imposed a state of emergency, while the mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, declared a snow emergency.

“It’s going to get pretty ugly,” he said at a town hall TV interview this morning.

“This is going to be a historic storm.”

Massachusetts residents went on Friday to buy food, as well as pellets that melt snow and ice, to help keep sidewalks and walkways clean.

As of Saturday morning, Boston Public Works said 500 snowmobiles were already working on the city streets.

The storm will create very cold temperatures with dangerous cold winds from Saturday night to Sunday morning, the NWS said.

“Return home safely tonight, stay home for the weekend, avoid unnecessary travel,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement, noting the deep snowfall on Long Island, New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley.

People who have had to travel have also been asked to fill their car’s fuel tanks and have supplies such as ice scrapers, blankets and water in their vehicles.

The NWS Eastern Region reported on Friday that the storm was expected to intensify rapidly over the next 24 hours, a meteorological event sometimes referred to as a “bomb cyclone”.

It comes on the heels of a similar diet winter storm which covered part of the North American East, from Georgia to Canada, just two weeks ago, cut off thousands of homes and even disrupted thousands of flights.
