TOKYO (Reuters) – Toyota Motor (NYSE 🙂 Corp. said all new sales of Western European vehicles will be zero-emission models by 2035, as the world’s largest automakers are meeting the region’s more stringent emissions regulations.
By 2030, at least half of Toyota’s model mix will be zero emissions, including electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen fuel cell cars, Toyota said in a press release on Thursday.
Toyota, like other carmakers, is releasing a number of electric cars to comply with tougher emissions regulations in key markets such as Western Europe.
Unlike some car companies, however, it has not made a commitment to abandon gasoline cars altogether, arguing that some regions are not yet ready to switch to electric vehicles or other alternative propulsion technologies.
Toyota said sales of electric vehicles, such as electric vehicles and hybrid cars, would help expand regional vehicle sales by about 1.3 million units in 2022 from 1.07 million this year.
