U.S. consumer confidence improved further in December by Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. consumer confidence improved further in December, suggesting that the economy will continue to expand in 2022 despite a resurgence of COVID-19 infections and a reduction in fiscal stimulus.

The Conference Board said on Wednesday that its consumer confidence index had risen to a reading of 115.8 this month, up from 111.9 in a revised rise in November. Economists surveyed by Reuters predicted that the index would rise to 110.8 since it previously announced 109.5 in November.

The nation is experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19 infections, driven by highly contagious Delta and Omicron variants, which could hamper economic activity in the first quarter.
