US and Russian officials will meet in Geneva as tensions rise in Ukraine Conflict News

Washington wants to prevent the Russian invasion of Ukraine by the Kremlin in the face of widespread security demands.

Officials in Russia and the United States are holding back security talks Geneva has launched a diplomatic operation in Europe aimed at easing tensions over Ukraine.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and his delegation arrived at the US diplomatic mission in Switzerland for talks with US Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and his team on Monday.

The meeting, which began shortly before 8 a.m. GMT, is seen as the first possible step in reviving dialogue between Moscow and Washington, led by the couple. links at low point Near Ukraine by force of the Russian army.

But diplomats on both sides were pessimistic about the chances of progress.

The US and other Western allies in Ukraine, including the European Union and the United Kingdom, promise to impose severe penalties Russia is expected to take major sanctions if it launches an attack.

But Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied plans to invade Ukraine and has accused NATO of undermining security in the region.

Last month, Moscow unveiled its wish list security requirements to calm tensions.

Many see it as a non-start in the West, especially the demand that NATO promise to cease military activity in Eastern Europe and Ukraine.

“Conversations May End in Anger”

Jonah Hull of Al Jazeera reported from London that U.S. negotiators would begin “testing Russia’s real intentions” in Monday’s talks in talks with Biden and Putin at a June 2021 Strategic Security Summit in Geneva in June 2021.

“No one expects such an agreement from those talks today,” he said.

“It’s being seen as a start, even though it could potentially end in anguish and collapse, and the best hope is to be able to exchange concerns at this time and look for possible communities.”

Following Monday’s talks, talks between Russia and NATO will take place in Brussels on Wednesday and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna on Thursday.
