SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Tesla (NASDAQ 🙂 Inc. aims to kick-start production of Cybertruck, which is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2023, by dropping the production plan later this year. he told Reuters on Thursday.
The person said that the delay is changing as the features and functions of Tesla’s electric pickup change as the competitiveness of the attractive product heats up in the segment.
Tesla is expected to make limited production of Cybertruck in the first quarter of 2023, before production increases, the source said.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Tesla, the world’s largest manufacturer of electric cars, makes electric sedans and used sports vehicles, but has lost its lucrative and well-known collection segment in the Americas.
Ford Motor (NYSE 🙂 Co. and Rivian Automotive are ahead of Tesla in launching electric pickups.
Ford said earlier this month it would nearly double the annual production capacity of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup to 150,000 vehicles before it hit U.S. dealerships this spring.
Ford’s market value broke $ 100,000 billion for the first time on Thursday when Tesla shares fell 6.7% and Rivian fell 7.1%.
CEO Elon Musk, who introduced a futuristic vehicle in 2019, has already delayed its production from late 2021 to late 2022.
Musk said Tesla will provide an updated product roadmap in its Jan. 26 earnings announcement.
“Oh man, this year has been a nightmare for the supply chain and it’s not over!” He tweeted in late November when asked about Cybertruck.
Tesla recently removed a reference to its production schedule from the Cybertruck application website. Last month, the website said: “You will be able to complete your setup as production approaches 2022.” It has now been discarded in “2022”.
Tesla plans to produce Cybertruck at its Texas plant, which is expected to begin production of Model Y cars earlier this year.
