What is improved Imax, and do you care?

The new Imax Enhanced format recovers a large part of the screen estate. There’s still a bit of black bar space — TVs typically have an aspect ratio of 1.77: 1, which is slightly higher — but you’re getting a 26 percent bigger picture than traditional ultra-wide-screen movies.

Sometimes, when playback services try to fix the letterboxing problem, they do so in a way that negatively affects the photo.
