WTC Scoreboard: India drops to fifth place after series defeat against South Africa

[ad_1]

India dropped to fifth place in the final table of the World Test Championship (WTC) points after losing seven times in South Africa in the third Cape Town test on Friday.

With four wins, three defeats and two draws in nine matches, India’s PCT dropped from 55.21 to 49.07, while South Africa rose from fifth to fourth with PCT 66.66. India has lost three points in the tournament due to a slow excess rate.

India play at home to Sri Lanka and Australia after beating Kiwis 1-0 in December 2021 and have work to do abroad in Bangladesh and England, where they play the only test that was canceled in September 2021. Concerns about COVID-19 in the Indian camp.

New Zealand, Bangladesh and the Antilles finished sixth, seventh and eighth, and England remain at the bottom of the standings with just one win out of eight matches.

Point System

Each team plays six series – three at home and three away – during the WTC cycle, but with a different number of tests. To take into account the total difference in the tests played by each team, the ranking is based on the PTC (percentage of points earned). A win gives them 12 points, six draws and a draw gives both teams two points. A tournament point is retained each time a team is excluded from the prescribed overtime rate.
