Yao Ming says he spoke to Peng Shua amid rumors of his disappearance: “He was in pretty good shape.”

Former NBA star Yao Ming announced on Monday that he had spoken Peng Shuai with Chinese tennis star they were both at a winter sports show in December.

In November, Peng said on social media posts that Zhang Gaoli, the leader of the Chinese Communist Party, had sexually assaulted him. The posts were quickly deleted and Peng was not seen in public for weeks. Many in the tennis world were concerned about their safety and many still do he questioned his appearances since returning to the public eye.

“He was in pretty good shape that day.” Ming said he spoke to her on Dec. 19. “We all enjoyed chatting and asking a lot of questions about the sport because we didn’t know it.”

Yao, the current president of the Chinese Basketball Association, and Peng have known each other for about two decades. He added that he and Peng both tried to get to know winter sports better in the pre-show of the Beijing Olympics.

“We asked a lot of questions about the game, we didn’t know about snow sports,” Ming said.

On December 19, he went to the hearing and spoke to Ming on the same day that Peng denied alleging sexual assault – almost two months after the allegations were posted online.

“I’ve never spoken or written about anyone who sexually assaulted me.” said Peng.

Dick Pound, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said the decision was taken unanimously by the team Peng said he was “fine” with a video call with COI President Thomas Bach. Bach said Peng was “calm” in the video, which happened in early December, while Peng was not yet seen in public.
