Tennis fans are in for a treat as Coco Gauff and Venus Williams meet in pairs at the French Open. The 17- to 40-year-old pair was an unexpected addition to the Paris doubles tournament.

The entry was announced on Sunday.

On Wednesday, June 2, they will play their first game on the court and Ellen Perez and Zheng Saisai will have the No. 13 seed in the first round. This is the first time they will be teammates in a Grand Slam tournament.

While not a teammate, they have faced off on the Grand Slam stage, with Gauff winning Williams twice. The young tennis star defeated the veteran at 2019 at Wimbledon and the 2020 Australian Open.

Williams has a doubles experience, winning 14 Grand Slam titles with her sister, Serena Williams. Venus also has seven major single titles.

In 2020 and 2021 in Australia, Gauff, along with his partner Caty McNally, won two quarter-finals.

Hsieh Su-Wei and Elise Mertens are the No. 1 seed in this year’s French Open. The French Open began on May 30 and will end on June 13.
