An explosion occurred in a minivan in the Dasht-e Barchi area west of the Afghan capital, authorities said.

At least one person has been killed and four others injured in an explosion in the Afghan capital, Kabul, according to authorities.

It happened on Saturday in Dasht-e Barchin, a suburb of Kabul, dominated mostly by members of the Shia Hazara community, who have been targeted by ISIL members for years.

The driver, speaking to the hospital AP, said during his journey that a suspect had boarded a man and a few minutes later the explosion occurred in the back.

He saw two passengers on fire while other passengers were falling from the back of the vehicle while fleeing from the front.

“I was in my car and there was an explosion in our previous vehicle,” a witness told AFP news agency. “It was completely burned.”

He said the blast occurred near a Taliban-controlled checkpoint, and that the shot was briefly heard immediately. A nearby hospital released a note saying it had admitted one dead and four injured.

There was no liability claim.

Taliban spokesman Zabihulla Mujahid tweeted that one person was killed and two injured in a minibus that ignited a fire and caused an explosion.

One day came after at least three people they were killed and 15 were wounded by a bomb in a mosque in Nangarhar.

In a statement, the Nangarhar governor’s office said officials had arrested two “perpetrators” of the mosque bombing, but did not provide further details. No group has claimed responsibility for the Nangarhar attack.

“More investigation into the incident is underway and more action will be taken,” the statement said.

Although Kabul has largely been free from ISIL (ISIS) since the Taliban took it in August, in a recent attack ISIL fighters searched the city’s National Military Hospital, killing at least 19 people and wounding more than 50.
