Innovations for the hybrid future of work

Skepticism about how productive workers could be from home was also eroded. An April 2021 study The Becker Friedman Institute at the University of Chicago reviewed the company’s post-Covid remote work plans and forecast a 5% increase in productivity for the U.S. economy. And a December 2020 survey by PwC 34% of employees said they were more productive than before the pandemic, and more than half of managers said their average employee productivity had improved.

Now, an equally widespread disruption is taking place in the form of hybrid work: although some organizations are demanding that employees return to office full time, many are preparing for a new normalcy, where workers spend a few days in the office and a few days away. with a combination of virtual and face-to-face meetings and collaborations. A CNBC survey according to human resources, finance and technology executives, less than half of companies will use a hybrid work model in the second half of 2021.

“I see hybrid work as one of those things that companies need to do well,” says Deniz Caglar, PwC’s practical director of U.S. organizational strategy. “We need to reinvent how we will work together and if we don’t get the hybrid model well, the company won’t be so productive. And in some industries, a one- or two-percent change in productivity can make a pretty big difference. ”

All of this is happening in a business landscape that is increasingly demanding pandemic flexibility. According to Accenture’s Future Work Study 2021for example, 83% of employees prefer a hybrid work model. And companies are listening: they know that the choices organizations make now will be crucial, especially as they race to attract and retain talent in a competitive market.

“As companies are ready to start bringing people back to the office, they need to recognize the needs and motivations of employees around the job and how they have changed and evolved,” says Jeff Wong, global director of innovation at EY. “Companies want to attract and retain the best people, but almost everyone says they want something different that existed before Covid.”

Organizations around the world are taking on the challenge of working to implement the right processes, innovative technologies, and leadership support to help them meet this powerful moment.
