Tell us about your role as an influencer marketing leader E. & J. Gallo Winery?

The transition from home to agency at a time when I desired strategy, creative thinking, and cultural importance within my work. At E. & J. Gallo, I advise some of the biggest wine brands that do influencer marketing and outside agency partners. A single day is not the same, but overall I offer my strategic perspective and highlight potential opportunities based on industrial and cultural events. I also have the pleasure of collaborating with members of our internal cross-functionalities that I learn every day and challenge me every day.

What attracted you to New York from Florida and how has it changed your life / career and your outlook?

I was born on Long Island, so I’ve always had a connection to New York; My visits to the city, as I got older, increased my interest in seeing the energy and culture of the city to see family. One of the biggest changes of perspective for me happened when I moved around downtown, first living in the Bronx, on the Upper West Side, and finally settling in Harlem. It was the first time in my life that most blacks and browns were in business, they were playing, they were playing and they were just apologizing.

Seeing the subtleties of Black in Harlem was a balsamic medicine and I didn’t know that I needed the assertion that I was growing up as someone who was “the only one”.

I would have thought of coming for a career, but that was also the most significant awareness. In terms of lessons, I’ve taken two main keys: (1) if you’re in a room, you’re meant to be there, and (2) this city is what you do. There are so many corners to discover: take a different route, catch your eye, say “yes” to the invitation; the possibilities are endless.

You work as a consultant and lead a digital strategy for brands to ensure that their marketing campaigns are inclusive, equitable, connected and engaging. Are you seeing brands make a shift towards real inclusion at all levels of their organization?

I challenge all clients to observe their performative optics and understand how they are involved. The job is not just hiring a consultant, writing a statement or publishing a black box. It’s a lifelong commitment personally, not just to check out the professional box. It starts with tremendous honesty about how an individual, group, or brand has contributed to the rhetoric, how it will be channeled, and the elements of action that will be taken to ensure accountability.

My recommendation is to stop marketing people and start humanizing them. I hope that the excluded groups no longer need the link of trauma, nor those who are only looking to create solutions.

Now, let’s get on with your morning routine. What is a typical day for you?

Since I was in my forties, I went to the morning routine. I am energetic and alert at this time of day, so I take advantage of that energy. As soon as I get up, I drink a full glass of water, tear my tongue out of the copper and then take my vitamins. Next, I like to sit on my favorite swing and take a few deep breaths or start a short guided meditation. After that, he went back to the room to listen to my bed newspaper, one of my favorite podcasts. Taking the time to do so sets the tone for the rest of my day.

What time is your wake-up call?

I wake up between 6:30 and 7:00 to optimize my morning and taste my routine. I sleep for eight hours and more.

Sleep is the most useful form of well-being and it continues to look, feel and interpret me at my best.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Take a deep breath, hydrate, express gratitude.

What is the morning job like before work? What rituals set you up for success?

After breakfast, I put myself in a position to work, and light a holy suit or incense to make the transition. The evening before a workout, I like to pick my outfit, take it down from the sterile closet.

How has the morning habit changed during the quarantine and why?

In the morning the awareness of me and my surroundings has changed dramatically. As residents of the city, we are trained to create space next to others in the area by taking up small spaces on a subway platform or a train car. Without a daily commute, I was able to work out three or four times a week, spend time outdoors every day, and make a balanced breakfast at home.

Describe your morning beauty routine from start to finish.

I follow my dermatologist’s instructions to a t-shirt; there are a mild moisturizing cleanser, vitamin C, moisturizer and sunscreen. I also have luxury Supernal Cosmic Glow Oil, my favorite facial oil, and do a facial massage with my hands to circulate blood flow. The oil is useless, but it tastes very good on my skin and it smells divine. I also like adding chlorophyll or Ray of Light to the second glass of water I have in the morning.

What do you eat for breakfast?

Oatmeal containers contain a lot of food. I like to make splashes of chia and / or flax seeds, dates, sunflower butter, banana and oat milk.

What are your morning media rituals?

I consume digital cocktails from various outlets to keep up with the pulse of cultural and industrial events. Some of them are NPR and The Daily podcasts, Alicia Kennedyweekly newsletter, reading Mark Brown’s newsletter, an article New York, Some Instagram scrolling and the latest Google search influencer marketing news.

What are your favorite books?

What do you always have to ensure a smooth and successful morning at the night table?

I went down from the bedside table to the floating shelves to match the minimalist design of my bedrooms. That said, I have enough space to have a glass of water near me. I use the foot of my window and have a magazine at my disposal to take notes on the dreams or reflections of the previous night.

What is your favorite soundtrack?

A mix of old school R&B, reggae and new school vocals. Lately, “Leave the Door Open, ”Silk Sonic repeated.

Do you train in the morning? If so, what do you do and until when?

I take turns SessionHIIT virtual training, Alo Movements yoga online or East River Pilates, and will train for 15 to 45 minutes depending on the offer.

What is your daily uniform? How has that changed in the quarantine?

I’ve been to blame for the work day sauce; I kept my Uniqlo sweatpants spinning and tied them with Grayson or Madewell button and crochet covered with my leather. With the change of seasons, I’ve started to include jackets, pants and dresses.

If you had one more hour every morning, how would you use it?

Make a more decadent breakfast with a friend.

What are one or two things you do every day to live today / bigger / happier?

Since zoom fatigue and social distance are in effect, I send voice notes to people I appreciate throughout the week.

If you were to determine your success at some point or moment, what would that be?

Be on the side of the people you believe in, as well as yourself.

My greatest success has been the ability to connect with someone with an opportunity, both personally and professionally. I’m where I am because someone stood up for me and encouraged me to pay it forward.
