2021 Olympics: Serena Williams has confirmed that she will skip the Tokyo Games

Serena Williams, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, will not be competing in the Tokyo Olympics this summer. Williams confirmed he would not play at a previous press conference at Wimbledon on Sunday.

“Actually, I’m not on the Olympic list, I don’t know that. If so, I shouldn’t be.” Williams told reporters.

Williams won three gold medals in the women’s doubles, and won with her sister Venus Williams in 2000, 2008 and 2012 as the pair became angry at the first round of the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Serena Williams also won gold in the women’s singles in 2012, and Maria Sharapova won the final.

The 39-year-old American did not specify the decision to skip the delayed Tokyo Games.

“There are a lot of reasons to make my Olympic decision. I don’t feel like joining them today. Maybe another day. Sorry,” Williams said.

The 2020 Olympics delayed the coronavirus pandemic by a year and will begin on July 23rd.

Williams will be looking for his eighth Wimbledon title in the coming weeks and his first since 2016. Williams holds 23 individual Grand Slam women’s titles and is behind Margaret Court the longest. He won his last Grand Slam victory at the 2017 Australian Open.
