The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, went into effect early Friday, ending an 11-day conflict that has killed at least 232 Palestinians and 12 Israelis.
The Egyptian-mediated truce sparked celebrations on Hamas-controlled streets in Gaza as the worst fighting in seven years ended.
But an official from a militant group warned that he had a “captive hand”, calling on Israel to end the violence in Jerusalem and deal with the heavy damage in Gaza, Reuters reported.

The ceasefire comes after Israeli warplanes and artillery have been attacking Gaza for more than a week, targeting Hamas militants, but it has caused a great deal of destruction on the high-density population list, with 2 million people living there. At least 104 women and children have been killed in Gaza, according to Palestinian health officials.
Between 2009 and 2014, Hamas waged three wars with Israel that fired more than 3,700 rockets aimed at Israeli cities and towns, killing two Israeli children.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said Thursday that Gaza is a “hell of a world” for children. “Enemies have caused serious damage to Gaza’s vital civilian infrastructure, including roads and power lines, creating a humanitarian emergency,” he told the UN General Assembly.
