James Anderson of England will rest for the first Ashes Test against Australia, but he is in good shape, said Jos Buttler.

Buttler spoke afterwards The media reported that Anderson was left out of the match that will begin in Gabba on Wednesday due to a calf strain.

“Jimmy won’t play, but he’s fit,” Buttler told reporters in Brisbane on Tuesday.

“He was playing bowling today … he had some witchcraft in the cut match.

“(It is) just a precautionary measure before an incredibly long series.”

Asked if Anderson would always rest, Buttler said, “All I’ve seen is that Jimmy has done well in bowling and bowling … I think that’s fine, but I can’t answer that question.”

Buttler said the rest of Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes were all right and were available for selection.

Stokes said that after a long break from the game and struggling with a finger problem, he would be able to throw a normal workload.

“Ben is in good form. He’s played very well in the net,” Buttler said.

“It’s a huge advantage for us as a side.”

England want to win the Australian Ashes for the first time since winning 3-1 in the 2010/11 series.
