JC: Yes. I would say it is a very good option. One day we will have computers in our eyes so that we can apply them in bed and work that way.

LG: Okay, Mike, what’s your recommendation this week?
MC: I would recommend a podcast. It’s a music history podcast. It’s called And presents, just two words And presents. So I have to go back 20 years, because in 2001 a book by journalist Michael Azerrad came out. It’s called Our Bands Could Be Your Life. There are a bunch of chapters in this book, and each chapter is based on the story of an underground and a group from the 1980s and 1990s. So there are chapters on Sonic Youth and The Replacements, Butthole Surfers, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Dinosaur Jr., Fugazi. Basically a great underground rock band from the 1980s appears in this book.
So this podcast to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this very popular and very influential book is making a section about each chapter. So you get a section about each group that appears in the book. To top it all off, Michael Azerrad, the author of the book, will be featured in the podcast as an interview.
So it’s a pretty wild trip. You just have to make these deep immersions in these groups. The hosts are so much fun. You learn a lot. Even if you’ve read the book, there’s still something to learn. So that’s my recommendation for anyone who has read and loved this book or who has sat that book on their shelf and has never completely absorbed it. And presents it gets you inside.
LG: Mike, I want to pause for a moment because I’m amazed. I think I kept quiet. Do you recommend a music podcast?
MC: Yes. A nerdy podcast in music history.
LG: Dear God. This is very out of character.
MC: It really is. I think maybe I’ll get to the podcast of my music history.
LG: I think you should.
MC: That’s what all my friends do. It seems like it needs to be done.
LG: You would be very good. You would be great … You can do a podcast about music history podcasts.
MC: Now we’re talking. Now we are talking. Lauren, tell us which music history podcast do you recommend?
LG: To the extent that I’ve ridiculed Gilad before, this week’s recommendation is very much like Gilad’s. I recommend ice cream.
MC: That’s very Gilad-esque.
LG: That’s it. Just ice cream. Please, I hope vegans don’t get angry. Vegetable ice cream is also there. Yes. Or lactose intolerant. Sorry, but I recommend ice cream.
MC: Always a strong recommendation, but why now?
LG: I’m on the East Coast right now, with Julian. And it’s very, very hot. I forgot how wet it is here. I feel like the moisture is coming out of me all day. But I’m missing it here. I swear, guys.
Also, I stay with my brother’s family and my niece and nephew are here, and they are kids. They’re teenagers, but they’re kids, and they love ice cream. So we went out for ice cream in the evening and it’s very nice. It’s just a nice little part of summer. I get to spend time with my nephew and nephew. Last night we went to this great little farmhouse, sat outside and grabbed some ice cream. I had vanilla with crispy Heath Bar and hot fudge topping. My nephew had an ice cream called Play-Doh. The yellow was bright, and it really looked like Play-Doh. It was really confusing to look at. My nephew … I don’t remember what he had, but then he made fun of my mother, their grandmother, for getting the pistachio. He said, “It’s a flavor that’s so old.” I was like “Be nice”.
