When referee Tyson Fury was ordered to defend his WBC heavyweight championship in his third fight with Deontay Wilder, he kept his intentions to collide between Fury and Anthony Joshua to reconcile the four recognized heavyweight titles. With that fight dead for now, Joshua was forced to face his WBO, former cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. The fight is set to take place on 25 September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The fight is expected to be broadcast live at the US DAZN

Usy (18-0, 13 KOs) climbed to the heavyweight after winning four world titles in cruising weight, winning the 2018 World Boxing Super Series. After choosing to lift the heavyweight, Usyk was immediately forced to settle for the WBO. Usyk adjusted to the weight with his fights against Chazz Witherspoon and Derek Chisora, though in both fights he was much less impressed than in his cruising career.

Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs) started his career 22-0, picking up the WBA, WBO and IBF championships, while establishing himself as one of the sport’s biggest draws. In June 2019, Josu had an annoying knockout against Andy Ruiz. He recovered from the rematch, using Ruiz’s crunchy boxing to work and regain the world championship.

As Kubrat continued to fight with Pulev, Joshua reached the knockout stages in the ninth round in the December 2020 fight, which would also serve as a tune before Fury’s fight.

Because of the fights between Fury and Joshua over Fury’s duty to deal with Wilder, the hope was that they could both fight by the end of 2021 if they both succeeded in defending the title. The end date of September is unlikely to do so, if it is still possible due to problems with the Fury-Wilder 3 which was changed to October 9 due to problems at the COVID-19 Fury camp.
