Ashes 2021-22 Test 5, Day 1 Direct Score: Australia made it early, three down

[ad_1]

Welcome SportsstarReport on the 5th Hobart Ash Test.

Forecast:

Marcus Harris has been ruled out of the Australian squad for the fifth Ashes Test against England and Usman Khawaja will join David Warner.

The day-night test will begin on Friday in Hobart. Australia won the first three games in Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne to finish the series and save the Ashes before the teams drew in Sydney.

Australian captain Pat Cummins confirmed Harris’ absence on Thursday, and also said that fastball player Scott Boland’s place in the team was subject to a season test. Boland injured his ribs in a Sydney bowling alley accident.

Jhye Richardson or Michael Neser will be called up to the Australian line-up if the selectors or doctors decide that choosing Boland is too risky, which he did not bowl in Wednesday’s training session.

“Scotty’s ribs are the only factor,” Cummins said. “It simply came to our notice then. If he doesn’t get in, Jhye and Michael Neser are fine. “

“Jhye is getting a five-point shot on the pink ball (which means) he’ll probably be the next one (coming in), but we’ll have that conversation when we need him. The turn between the tests is pretty close. it will be just another ship. ”

After scoring 3, 9 away, 3 and 23 in the first two tests, Harris’ place was examined.

The opener bounced back with 76 spectaculars at the Melbourne Boxing Day event to retain his place in Sydney’s fourth event. But scores of 38 and 27 were not enough to maintain his position, with Khawaja scoring 137 and 101 in both innings.

Cummins noted that the decision to pair Khawaja and Warner at the head of the order was more influenced by Khawaja’s unbearable form than Harris’s lack of form.

“I think (Harris) knew he was coming,” Cummins said. We think the message to “Harry” is going very well, it’s hard for him.

“It’s not often that someone comes in and puts two hundred in the same game. I thought Marcus was very good, he has grown in every game. The MCG test was a big part of what we won.

“This is more the case for someone who demands a place than for Marcus to lose his place because of his form.”

England were expected to sign their starting team on Thursday. Jos Buttler has returned home with a broken finger, which will give Sam Billings his unexpected test debut.

Ben Stokes is sidelined and may be playing as a specialist hitter, and Jonny Bairstow is also under a cloud of injuries. If he can’t play, his place will probably be taken by Ollie Pope.

“We need to see where (Stokes and Bairstow) are,” said England captain Joe Root. “We need to see what their bodies can handle and then evaluate them all.

“You can definitely choose Ben as a bat, and so can Jonny. He’s still a batsman.”

Chris Woakes is expected to return to replace Jimmy Anderson, who can rest. Root said that England must take advantage of the fight shown in the last matchday of the fourth round to get a draw.

“It was after three very difficult games where we performed poorly and didn’t show our best skills, we showed great character and it’s definitely something for us to move forward,” Root said.

“Everyone there showed enthusiasm, struggle and pride, and especially that last day is something we need to take advantage of and we need to play more often over the course of five days. ”
