Asia, America looks at the sky “Super Flower Blood Moon” | Space News

The phenomenon occurs when the entire lunar eclipse coincides with the moon being at the closest point to the Earth.

On Tuesday, stars from Asia Pacific and America will have a rare opportunity to observe the “Super Flower Blood Moon” – a huge red-orange moon – astronomers say will be the show once a decade.

The super moon is the result of the first total lunar eclipse in more than two years that occurred at the same time as the closest moon to Earth.

The eclipse will begin at 08:47 GMT and the moon will be completely in the shadow of the earth between 11: 11-11: 26 GMT – in the evening before Asia Pacific and the Americas at dawn.

The moon will darken and turn red as sunlight refracts through the Earth’s atmosphere. Experts say that the color changes with each eclipse and the more dust or clouds the Earth will appear in the Earth’s atmosphere.

Unlike the solar eclipse, the phenomenon can be safely seen with the naked eye.

In a Super Moon, the moon is closest to Earth, at a distance of 360,000 kilometers.

At that point, it may appear 30 percent brighter and 14 percent higher than at a distant point (approximately 50,000 km apart).

The full moon of May is known as the Flower Moon because it occurs when spring flowers bloom.

“There has been a lot of interest,” Andrew Jacobs, astronomer at the Sydney Observatory, told AFP news agency.

Jacobs has organized a safe event to view COVID-19 with telescopes and expert speakers. “I look forward to a clear night.” The event will be broadcast live and 20,000 users have already signed up.

For those who want to see the event first-hand, Jacobs predicts that the best view will be “in Australia, New Zealand and large parts of the Pacific. New Guinea also has a good view.”

“America sees it early in the morning, but they don’t necessarily see all parts of the eclipse,” he said.

According to NASA’s Bill Cooker: “People in Hawaii and the Aleutian Islands will see the entirety of this eclipse – it will be a beautiful spectacle for them.”

The next Super Blood Moon is expected to be in 2033.
