The Tunisian Red Moon says the ship was leaving Libya’s Zuwarah carrying migrants from Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Bangladesh.
At least 43 migrants and refugees are feared drowned after 84 were rescued after a boat crashed off the Tunisian coast, the Tunisian Red Moon said on Saturday.
The ship set sail from the northwest coast of Libya with Zuwarah, carrying immigrants and refugees from Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea and Bangladesh as they tried to cross the Mediterranean to Italy, the organization said.
“The navy rescued 84 migrants and drowned another 43 on a ship that sailed from Libya’s Zuwar to Europe,” Red Moon official Mongi Slim said.

Libya frequently departs for European migrants making a dangerous sea crossing in the Mediterranean.
Since 2014, more than 20,000 immigrants and refugees have died at sea trying to reach Africa from Europe.
At least 866 people are feared drowning while traveling across the Mediterranean from North Africa this year.
More than 40 people were killed in April when a boat sank off the coast of Tunisia. In March, 39 were killed off the coast of Sfax.
In June last year, at least 60 people were killed when a ship sank.
Human smugglers throw ships, many of them light rubber vessels or rough fishing boats, overflowing with migrants hoping to reach European shores to seek asylum.
Some are fleeing conflict or persecution, and many hundreds of thousands are fleeing poverty.
Since the beginning of the year, almost 19,800 migrants have arrived in Italy in the same period last year against just over 6,700, according to data from the Italian Interior Ministry.
