Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, and his wife Melinda have announced that they will end their marriage after 27 years.
“After a lot of thinking about our relationship and a lot of work, we decided to end our marriage,” the couple said in a joint statement on Monday.
The couple has donated a large portion of their wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has sought to improve health around the world and reduce poverty.
The couple said they “continue to believe in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.”
