BRAZIL (Reuters) -Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro left his hospital in Sao Paulo on Sunday for four days after undergoing a stabbing treatment that nearly killed him in 2018 due to complications, and said he would return to his table in Brazil on Monday.
“I will return to the presidency tomorrow,” Bolsonaro told the media when he was released from Vila Nova Star Hospital on Wednesday.
“I had to go on a diet, I had to do what I had to do … I wanted to get out from day one, but they wouldn’t let me. In 10 days I’d eat a rib barbecue, eat anything, I hope.”
The hospital said in an earlier statement that Bolsonaro will continue to be observed as an outpatient. His medical team also advised him to go on a diet, but Bolsonaro said he may not be complying.
“I’ll try to follow through, but I’m not an example to anyone when it comes to diet,” he said.
The 66-year-old president was taken to a hospital in Sao Paulo for treatment related to an intestinal tract after a 2018 stabbing. He did not need surgery.
At a live online event when a Caixa Economica bank branch opened in the north of the country on Saturday, Bolsonaro said he felt good and eager to return to work.
“I can’t wait to get back to work, see friends and really move to Brazil,” Bolsonaro said.
