The rumors are true: Malibu yes it’s all cracked up, and that idyllic life of surfing, sun and sand really does exist. One of Malibu’s most popular chefs and restaurants, Helene Henderson, perfectly captures the calm and serene spirit of Malibu. The Camille Styles team was lucky enough to live a dinner at Henderson’s house to celebrate their new cookbook. Malibu Farmhouse Sunrise to Sunset. It would be an exaggeration to say that the evening was special, and we were all inspired to bring this beach-inspired home decor to our homes to get a dinner-like atmosphere. The tablecloth was a reusable scarf, appetizers were served on plain wooden tables, and the surrounding plants were the only decorative accessory. It was somehow chic and completely accessible, and we touched Helene to find out how she creates dinner so easily. In an interview with Camille here.
Do you want to bring some of these Malibu spirits to your home? Go shopping for Helene Henderson’s everyday uniform, beach-inspired home decor, favorite cookbooks, and cooking and serving items.
Helen’s Daily “Uniform”:
I share Helen’s love Ama Denim. Their jeans have a classic denim look that is completely relaxed and always comfortable.
It’s hard to beat the classic white t-shirt. This is Helen’s favor, and maybe I’ll have to add it to my collection.
When you are on your feet all day, it is necessary to be comfortable with your boots. You can’t beat the quality of Fryer, and I love the rustic and vivid look of these.
Favorite cooking books:
“I like it Ottolenghi books a lot. They are very lively visually, and inspire me to cook.“Helene.”
“I have this Gourmet Menu old kitchen book, 1963. I love the photos because they are funny, they always make me smile, the recipes are very short, but they are very well written because all the important instructions are described so accurately and briefly that it is very impressive.“Helene.”
“When French Laundry Cookbook It came out in 1999, when I read this cover of the book over and over again. At the time I was running my own cooking business at Lavender Farms, and that was the closest thing to the professional knowledge I had access to.“Helene.”
Favorite kitchen items:
I love all the natural wood in Helen’s kitchen. Camille taught us the wonders of dough bowls with her powder bath sink, but I also love using it as a fruit bowl.
This wonderful shot of Hellenic spices, flour, seeds, etc. encouraged me to organize the kitchen with these bowls. The glass bottom is perfect for easy viewing inside, but the wooden coverings give it a touch of warmth.
Meet the last serving table. Camille describes:There was a moment of silence when Helen took the rainbow-colored salad plate and placed it in the middle of the table. ” While anything I create can be so beautiful, I plan to try to mimic that look.
How nice is this crush? Helen says:I love my “lady grater” to crush garlic and ginger, I have been mine for decades. Always use fresh garlic, never pre-peeled, as this thing is rubbish and turns the food into a bitter taste. I keep it ginger in the freezer, and whenever I need it, take it out of the freezer, mash what I need and then return it to the freezer until the ginger is needed again“.
Desktop items:
“I love them all Gjusta household goods – They are very fresh because it makes me feel cold (haha!) Their plates and napkins are wonderful.“Helene.”
“Since my favorite jeans are from the Mother brand, I like to use them instead of the usual tablecloth to put on a table. four-corner scarf, which gives the dining experience a more picnic and beach feel, even if you’re not in the sand“- Helene
“Staub’s cast iron plates go perfectly from the oven to the table, and I love the classic style. The bakers are in the oven at 572 degrees, as well as in the dishwasher.“Helene.”
“Malibu Market and Design furniture is a great place, but also smaller items like candles – especially soul candle this candle. They also have teak root candles, amazing.“Helene.”
These glasses are the perfect combination of beach and classic. I love that they are casual enough for everyday use, but also make statements on the table.
