When the best of boxing kicked off again on Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez makes his way to the ring to defend the Miami super middleweight title pair against the mandatory Avni Yildirim challenge. Alvarez will put both his WBA and WBC 168-pound titles in line at the main event of his wrestling ticket from Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. Alvarez is in the midst of what is expected to be a tremendous 13 months, where he plans to combine the four recognized titles in the super middleweight.

Alvarez has won 13 fights without a single defeat in his career, winning in 2013 by Floyd Mayweather. In his career, he has won the championship in junior middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight and lightweight. Looking ahead, Alvarez already plans to fight WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders before fighting twice more each year, hoping to face IBF champion Caleb Plant to reconcile the four 168-pound world titles.

Yildirim wins only through the intricate maneuvers of boxing politics. He has been struggling for two years and his last outing comes from the loss of technical decisions. Still, he was named a mandatory challenge for the WBC title and took the money to step aside and Alvarez had a chance to face Callum Smith in his final outing, guaranteed a showdown on Saturday.

In the main event of this card Julio Cesar Martinez was expected to defend the WBC flyweight title against McWilliams Arroyo, but Martinez had to leave the same week after a hand injury. The fight – defending a mandatory WBC title for Martinez – was scheduled for last August, but Martinez had to leave the competition with a gastrointestinal problem. Now, Arroyo vs. Abraham Rodriguez will be the main event for the provisional WBC flyweight title.

In addition, Zhilei Zhang will take on Jerry Forrest to fight heavyweights. Zhang, 37, holds an undefeated record in the ring with a 17-0 lead in the playoffs. She has won eight of the last nine fights since 2017, taking Audriy Rudenko away. Forrest, meanwhile, has 20 playoffs in 26 career wins, but has lost two of the three decided, including one against Carlos Takam last July.
