India is battling a catastrophic outbreak of coronary artery overflowing hospitals incinerators that work at full capacity.
On Monday, the fifth day in a row, the country set a global daily record for new coronavirus infections as new variants of the virus continue to spread.
Life-saving oxygen is scarce and leave families on their own to treat people who are sick with COVID-19 from hospital to hospital, seeking treatment.
India has ordered armed forces to help fight rising infections, including the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States as some countries have pledged to send urgent medical assistance.
Health ministry data show that India has an official population of 1.3 billion, 17.31 million infections and 195,123 deaths, although health figures are likely to have higher figures.
Here’s how the world reacted:
United Kingdom
The first of nine UK aircraft container supplies, including fans and oxygen concentrators, was due to arrive in India on Tuesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK had promised to do “everything it could”.
Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said the UK would float military or other aircraft to help the country get supplies to India “at the right time”.
The support package includes 495 oxygen concentrators, 120 non-invasive fans and 20 manual fans from UK surplus stocks.
United States of America
On Sunday, President Joe Biden said the U.S. would ship raw materials from the Covishield, Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in India, as well as medical equipment and protective equipment.
“The United States has identified sources of specific raw materials for the urgent manufacture of the Covishield vaccine that will be immediately available to India in India,” the White House said in a statement.
However, he did not mention whether he would send a dose of the remaining 30 million AstraZeneca vaccines today.
The chief medical adviser to the Biden administration said on Sunday that the US would look into how to help supply India’s vaccines.
Dr. Anthony Fauci told the ABC that the U.S. will look at ways to help, such as sending vaccine doses to India or helping the country “basically get vaccinated themselves”.
European Commission
On Sunday, the European Commission activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and said it wanted to send oxygen and medicines to India after receiving the request from Delhi.
“The European Union is pooling resources to respond to India’s request for assistance through India’s Civil Protection Mechanism,” tweeted European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

An EU official on Monday confirmed that India had requested medical oxygen and the anti-virus drug Remdesivir and said the aid would be available soon.
Ireland
Irish Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said in a tweet on Monday that the country would provide 700 oxygen concentrators to India with EU support.

Germany
The German Ministry of Health said in a press conference on Monday that it was sending Indian fans, monoclonal antibodies, the drug Remdesivir, and surgery and N95 protective masks.
Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokeswoman said on Sunday that Germany was “preparing for an urgent aid mission.”

The Indian Defense Ministry said on Friday that it would import 23 plants and mobile containers to generate oxygen from Germany for air transport and reach India in a week.
France
France will send oxygen breathing apparatus to India in the coming days, the office of French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday.
Pakistan
Pakistan has offered to send medical equipment and supplies after Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted prayers for a “speedy recovery” on Saturday.
“As a gesture of solidarity with the people of India in the wake of the current COVID-19 wave, Pakistan has offered to provide relief to India with fans, BiPAP, digital X-ray machines, PPEs and related issues,” Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi tweeted.

In a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, the charity manager of the Edhi Foundation Faisal Edhi Pakistan pledged to send about 50 ambulances to India.
The Edhi Foundation runs clinics and orphanages across Pakistan while managing an ambulance fleet in Pakistan’s most populous cities.
Russia
The Russian pharmaceutical company Pharmasyntez said on Monday that it was ready to send one million packages of Remdesivir COVID-19 treatment to India in late May, after receiving approval from the Russian government.
In comments to Reuters news agency, the Russian drug manufacturer said it was waiting for a legal basis in which to send Remdesivir the generic version it produces with the US drug COVID-19.
