Sensitive files contained details describing the movements of a warship, which led to Russia firing warning shots off the Crimean coast.

The British government is investigating how secret defense documents were found at the bus station in England, the movement of a warship that led Russia to fire firing warnings on the Crimean coast.

The Ministry of Defense (MO) said on Sunday that an employee had reported the documents lost last week and that an investigation had been launched.

“It couldn’t happen,” Northern Ireland Minister Brandon Lewis told Sky News. “It was properly reported at the time … there is an internal investigation into that situation.”

HMS Defender is currently part of the UK Carrier Strike Group heading to the Indo-Pacific region.

However, it was reported earlier this month that he was moving away with the temporary team to carry out “his own set of missions” in the Black Sea.

Type 45 destroyers clashed with Russian forces on Wednesday as they traveled through the southern waters of the Crimean peninsula, which Russia officially annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

Moscow responded that several aircraft had the ship in the shade at different altitudes, the lowest being approximately 152 meters (500 feet).
