Tropical Storm Elsa floods at least one subway station in New York City as heavy rains create traffic hazards.

Elsa’s rapid tropical storm hit the New York City area with heavy rains and strong winds as it shook the East Coast on Friday, warning of a tropical storm from southern New Jersey to Boston.

The maximum sustained storm wind hit a high of about 85 km / h (50 mph) in New York City and was moving across Long Island, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said at 8 p.m. [1200 GMT] update.

In South Carolina, a crew at Coast Guard Air Station Savannah rescued a family that was stopped on Wednesday on Otter Island after the boat pulled off the beach. The group was taken to hospital at a hospital, a Coast Guard news report reported.
