FIFA World Cup qualifiers: Carvajal becomes Real Madrid’s first Spanish national team player since March

Spanish coach Luis Enrique recalled his teammate Dani Carvajal to the World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Sweden on Friday, the first Real Madrid player to be selected since March.
Right-back Carvajal missed most of last season due to injuries, played just 15 games in all competitions, and was ruled out of the Spanish European Championships.
Luis Enrique has not selected a 13-time European champion from Real Madrid in his last three games, including Spain in the European Championships.
Spain is second in the World Cup standings, two points behind Sweden, and needs a win in its last two matches to secure first place and a place in the Qatar final.
“I’ll be honest, I feel the pressure. Greater than in the last phase of the UEFA Nations League. We will play to be in a World Cup,” Luis Enrique said at a press conference in Madrid on Friday.
“Our team of players is young, but they are also experienced and mature, with enough luggage internationally to handle that kind of responsibility.”
Spain will face Greece on November 11, and three days later before taking Sweden.
