French Open 2021: Petra Kvitova retires after injured ankle in “post-match press requirements”

Petra Kvitova, the world’s No. 12 player, announced on Tuesday that she would retire from the French Open after suffering an ankle injury she suffered in “post-match press requirements”. The press was defeated shortly after Greet Minn in the first round.

The severity of the injury has not been made public, but it was enough for seed No. 11 and his team to decide that the best action would be to move away from Roland Garros to compete on the grass. Wimbledon, the world’s most famous grass competition, will begin on June 28th.

Kvitova saved a game point before taking the lead in Minn 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. He had to take Elena Vesnina in the second round, but the Russian will get into the third round.
