Go planning your trip with these apps and tricks

When loading step-by-step instructions, the places in one of the saved lists appear first when you are looking for a place to go: Enter the first letters and select the location. Google Maps allows you to queue up 10 directions to the same trip.

Use Apple Maps to create complete guides

Like Google Maps, Apple Maps can save specific places and add them to your watchlist, which you can return to whenever you want. Bring a location to the iOS or macOS app, then tap or click on it Guides“It’s a button that looks like a plus sign inside a box.” You can add the place to an existing guide or create a new one.

If you decide to create a new guide, you need to name it. You can also add a custom image; otherwise, the list will be given the main image of Apple Maps for the first location you add. When a driver is added somewhere, the plus symbol becomes a tick symbol.

You decide how to use these guides: You can create a main list for the entire trip, or you can create multiple lists to cover your next vacation (restaurants, hotels, entertainment, or whatever). When you see somewhere added to an Apple Maps guide, the list will be available from its information card.

To return to your guides, click your user icon on the right side of the search bar (iOS) or choose a guide in the left navigation pane (macOS). You can add new places, share the list with someone in your contacts, change the order of the list, change the guide photo, and more. Unfortunately, Apple Maps doesn’t yet have the option to map the route to all locations in a guide.

On iOS, you can browse expert curator guides. Open the search panel at the bottom of the interface, and select Explore the guides to see what’s in – you can narrow your search by location or publisher and see recently uploaded guides.

Other apps to help you move around

If you need something more advanced than what Google Maps and Apple Maps offer in terms of travel planning, there are plenty of third-party alternatives available. It is one of the most valued TripIt, in addition to keeping a list of all the places you want to visit, it also organizes accommodation reservations and travel arrangements (plane, bus, train and others).
