A single woman started dancing solo for a few days before eventually harming more and more people. The doctors claimed the disease was caused by overheated blood and those affected were advised to continue to persist and shake the fever – they also called the musicians and put up a stage in the town center to give more space to the ‘dancers’. Although the idea seemed funny at first, most of them continued to dance until they became unconscious, and some died of exhaustion, heart attacks or strokes.
