Iranian diplomat found dead after ‘falling from tower block’ | Middle East News

A 52-year-old Swiss embassy employee was found dead by a gardener at the foot of a tower block, police said.

Iranian police have reported an investigation into the death of a Swiss diplomat, and one of his rescue officials said the body was found Tuesday morning at the foot of a tower house.

“Specialized police units are examining the 52-year-old Swiss citizen employed in Tehran at the Swiss embassy in“ death situations, ”the national police said in a brief statement online.

Khaledi told the AFP news agency that the diplomat lived in the tower block and fell from the 17th floor.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry (FDFA) has confirmed that an employee of the Iranian embassy was killed in an accident.

“The FDFA and its head, Federal Councilor Ignatius Cassis, are shocked by the horrific death and feel the deepest condolences to the family,” he said.

The Swiss embassy in Iran contacted local authorities on the matter, the ministry added.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has expressed its condolences in a statement, saying it will make an announcement when the investigation is completed.

The Swiss embassy has been managing U.S. interests in Iran since ties between Washington and Tehran were severed after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
