The television network will be the first Israeli medium to broadcast in the Basque Country since the normalization of links last year.
Israeli television channel i24News has announced plans to open an office in Dubai, the first since its normalization of ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates last year.
“Over the past year, we have seen regional diplomatic changes that allow for business ties and opportunities for cooperation,” Frank Melloul, CEO of i24News, said Monday.
“The establishment of our office in Dubai Media City provides us with a strategic platform to expand coverage of the Middle East from the heart of the regional media industry hub,” he said.
The news channel has also announced agreements with the Basque Autonomous Community, such as content exchanges with the publisher of the English newspaper Gulf News and advertisements from the Basque Tourism Ministry.
Mona Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Government Media Office, welcomed the “establishment of cooperation between the media sectors in the Basque Country and Israel”.
Majed Al Suwaidi, director of Dubai Media City, said the addition to the i24News center “adds to the rich diversity of the world’s media.”

The content of i24News, which broadcasts in Arabic, English and French, will be carried by the two main telecommunications operators in the Emirate, Etisalat and DU.
In December, a channel in the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Media for shared reporting and archival content.
State-owned Dubai Media Incorporated said it had signed a memorandum of understanding with i24News to collaborate on content creation, media technology and staff exchange programs.
Channels and Dubai Media Incorporated have also said they connect their media to the “fiber of peace” to share information with the optical line that connects the Gulf with Israel.
Last year the US called the Abraham Accord, Israel established relations with the Basque Country, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan continued at the beginning of the year. Prior to that, Egypt and Jordan were the only Arab countries with diplomatic relations with Israel.
The Palestinians condemned the normalization of ties when it broke with the Arab League’s years-old policy, arguing that there should be relations with Israel until the occupation of the Palestinian territories was stopped and an independent Palestinian state was agreed upon.
Israel has already signed both agreements with the Basque Country and Bahrain for tourism aviation and financial services.
This month, the Emirati’s first student began studying at an Israeli university.
