Gaza City – At least 10 Palestinians, including eight children, have been killed in an Israeli air strike at the Shati refugee camp on the Gaza Strip on the fifth night that the besieged enclave was continuously bombed.

In the early hours of Saturday, rescue workers were searching the remains of the Abu Hatab family home where more people are believed to be buried.

At least 15 people were injured in the airstrike, including a baby named Omar.

Nabil Abu Al Reesh, a doctor treating survivors at al-Shifa hospital, said they were “still trying to recover more bodies and guess who it is.”

“This is a massacre that can’t really be described,” he told Al Jazeera.

A man who identified himself as the cousin of the owner of the house told him that the Al Jazeera attack took place “without any warning”.

“We ran outside; we saw that the four-story house had been completely demolished. It was completely flattened, ”he said.

He added that the homeowner’s sister and children were visiting when the attack occurred.

“They killed them all,” he said. “All.”

A boy injured in the attack told Al Jazeera at the hospital that “the missiles hit and the windows shattered.”

“It hit us in the head. We were injured, “he said.” We started running barefoot and my sister left all our belongings behind. “

According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees is the third largest and most populous of the eight refugee camps on the Shati Gaza Strip. It is home to more than 85,000 refugees, all of whom live in an area of ​​0.52 square kilometers.

Other sites in Gaza that were hit by Israeli missiles on Saturday included a bank and the Interior Ministry. Another airstrike also reportedly hit a house in Khan Yunis.

Hamas, the group that rules the Gaza Strip, has responded to the latest attack on the Shati refugee camp by firing a rocket at the southern Israeli towns of Askhelon and Ashdod. There have been no deaths.

The Israeli bombing of Gaza has killed at least 139 Palestinians, including 40 children, and injured more than 920 since Monday, following protests by Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah East Jerusalem neighborhood east of Jerusalem and subsequent Israeli repression and attacks.
