As a mother, she often feels that there is not enough time in the day; I often get up early to find a quiet time at work and go to bed late to wash clothes and prepare breakfast. Especially with small children with small feet, I look forward to time to enjoy something with myself. So with Mother’s Day coming up, I took it my Instagram to see how other mothers want to be appreciated, and to know what them believe that it is the best gift for the mother“And there are results!”

A staycation
Only time. Let’s be real: most of us have had a fair amount of time with our family over the last year. So it’s no surprise that mothers want to spend time or time with their friends on this mother’s day. Don’t get me wrong, we all love spending time with our kids, though WFH and home education, most moms need a break before * literally * breaking up! Whether to book or not stay in a hotel, send it to the spa or leave it at home alone for the day, consider time only as a solid option for the mother.
What you give your mother is an opportunity to refill and refill her tank. Be thoughtful in your approach. If you plan to leave the house alone, make sure you are leaving the house clean to stay calm. Maybe leave a pre-made meal or Postmates gift card, so they don’t have to prepare anything! Create creativity: If you’re sending them to a hotel or spa, make sure you send a small card or note in your bag so you know how much you appreciate it and acknowledge your family’s contribution.
I wanted to mention that this is especially important for all single mothers out there. If you know of one, I encourage you to encourage them to help. It can be as easy as inviting kids to play for two hours so they can take a quiet shower. Or, offer their children a meal and dinner. The gesture will be appreciated and you will get some karma points.
Spending time in nature
This year, what has become crystal clear to me is that moms need to rest and recharge. So it didn’t surprise me how many moms want to keep up with excursions, beach days, kayaking and so on. Harvard Health says research in the growing scientific field called ecotherapy has shown a strong link between time spent in nature and a reduction in stress, anxiety and depression. They also indicate that the link between the soothing sounds of nature can lower hypertension and cortisol, the stress hormone.
If you find the idea of going out to nature on Mother’s Day a crowded idea, consider creating an opportunity to spend time with your mother in nature in the future. Paired entrances to the state park or garden a blanket they are a nice touch. If you are a giver, try something that promotes and encourages a love of nature. Some items to consider are new trail shoes or Porter water bottle. If mom is more fashionable, choose one fanny pack or belt bag so they can be hands-free or a a wonderful sun hat. If you want to keep the atmosphere cool, try walking through the garden, reading in the park or lying on the beach. The list goes on, and even if your child’s mother only wants time, your father’s mother may want some time with you, especially if you’ve been apart during COVID.
I also wanted to mention (and this can be a touching topic but I’ll go anyway), if you’re an adult in a relationship and you do things with your significant other, I’d encourage you to make a special one — once with your mother. While I’m sure your partner is incredible, it must be hard for a mother to always share your time with someone else. Mothers have been raising their children for years and most of all, what they want is to meet someone special to share your life with. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have the one-time longing they had with you. It’s just the thought that an empty nest once shared with me and it’s something I encouraged my husband to do with his mother. Let’s face it, your partner will always be their baby!

In the end, they want your mom to know that you appreciate them. So many mothers responded with a thoughtful card or note. Unfortunately my mother passed away a few years ago, but many women in my life have loved me in one way or another; whether it’s modeling and cooking for me through cooking or home-cooked meals. Two of my closest girlfriends have shared their mother with me in times of life that I need most.
My grandmother and aunt have also had a big influence on shaping my role as a mother and also my mother-in-law. Needless to say, I have been blessed with my mothers, and it is important to recognize these mothers as well. So on this Mother’s Day put a pen on paper and let them know the impact you have had on your life.
I want to leave you with one last thought. Mother’s Day can be a tough day for some. So whether you are a stranger to your past mother, know that I am thinking of you on this day and that I am sending you all the love and light from my heart because motherhood means caring for and raising all women in a time of need.
